The place and date of publication and the state and edition are based on Hollstein (The Collaert Dynasty, Part 1, 2005, p. 144); More than one engraver contributed to this series: Adriaen Collaert (1560-1618), Cornelis Galle (1576-1650), Jacques De Bie (1581-c.1650), Jean Baptiste Barbé (1578-1649); The title page suggests that the present series is probably from the 1st edition. For the individual prints it is however not possible to distinguish between the first two editions. The 1st edition is published by Adriaen Collaert after 1598, from which we have the title page. The 2nd edition is by Jan III Collaert and Carel Collaert, the 3rd by Theodoor Galle, and the 4th by Johannes Galle. The two latter changed systematically the addresses in the individual plates. Johannes Galle published the series in 1638, thereby providing a certain terminus ante quem for the publication of the present edition. In case all the prints belong however to the 1st edition, the terminus ante quem would be 1618.
